Labor Research Methods

Labor Research Methods is an upper division class on research philosophy, methodology and design for applied research in labor studies. Instruction will be given in basic qualitative and quantitative methods used by unions, public sector institutions, non-profits and community organizations to produce important studies for these organizations. Students will learn how to develop and present research for action results, using power and industry analysis. All participants will carry out an actual research project during the semester.

LBR 495-01, will be meeting Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on 9/13, 9/27, 10/11, 10/25 and 11/8 on the campus of CSUDH at 1000 E Victoria St., Carson, CA, 90747.

If you are not a matriculating student at CSUDH, you may still take this class. If you are a community college student taking at least 2 classes (and have already taken 45 units), you may cross enroll for a small fee by contacting Vivian at her email above to obtain the cross-enrollment form.

You may also enroll through Open University without taking any other classes. The cost of the class through OU is $540.

CSUDH is the only university in Southern California where a student get receive a Bachelors with a Labor Studies major.

Other classes offered in Labor Studies this fall are Labor and Film, meeting Monday nights, 7-9:45 pm,; Literature, Class, and Work, meeting Tuesday nights 7-9:45:, Social Documentation, also a Saturday class meeting 9/6, 9/20, 10/11, 10.25, 11/08; Women and Work an internet class; Labor Management relations in Government, meeting MW 5:3-6:45; Sociology of Work, MW 5:3-6:45 and MW 11:30-12:45; and Financial Accounting. Many other classes offered at CSUDH fulfill units needed for graduation. The semester begins September 2, 2008.
