Workers Celebrates the Legacy of Miguel Contreras on the Third Anniversary of his Passing

Latino leaders honored for their contributions to L.A.'s workers

On May 6th, the Los Angeles Labor Movement celebrated the legacy of former Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Los Angeles County

Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, Miguel Contreras by honoring Ron Herrera, Secretary-Treasurer of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 396, Hart Keeble, Business Manager of Ironworkers Local 416 and the Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE).

All received the Miguel Contreras Leadership award for their dedication and contributions to L.A.'s workers.

Contreras was the first Latino to lead the federation. It was under his leadership, that the door was opened for immigrants, low wage workers, such as janitors and hotel workers to become active in the movement - leading the federation to become one of the strongest and most politically effective in the country.
