Asian Pacific American workers and community leaders announced their support for Mark Ridley-Thomas for Second District County Supervisor today at the Koreatown Pocket Park and Monument. Supporters included workers, second district residents and community leaders.
"When my wife died a few weeks ago, I didn't even have paid leave so that I could take time off and grieve. That's just not right. We need the same respect that other worekrs inside Kaiser get." -- William Seals, Inter-Con security officer at Kaiser Woodland Hills.
Security officers who work for Inter-Con are the only workers inside Kaiser healthcare facilities who do not have a union, do not make a living wage, have no access to affordable family healthcare, no sick days, or other basic needs. They don’t even have a day’s worth of paid bereavement leave.
The Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO’s delegate body last night issued their endorsements for the upcoming Spring 2008 elections. Endorsements were made in seats ranging from Congressional to Los Angeles Superior Court.
