Civil Rights Race and Equality

The Los Angeles labor movement is at the forefront of demanding civil rights and racial equality for all. We salute the civil rights heroes of generations past, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Cesar Chavez. Dr. King was assassinated while supporting striking sanitation workers in Memphis, and he eloquently spoke of the powerful link between civil rights and labor. In the same spirit of nonviolence, Cesar Chavez organized farm workers for civil and human rights. The fight for civil rights and racial equality is an integral part of labor’s agenda.
