Labor Community Services AFL-CIO/UW is a cooperative relationship between the AFL-CIO and the United Way.
Assistance is given to those who are on strikes or locked out, facing layoffs, plant closures, unemployed or underemployed. The core programs are emergency food and utility assistance.
Our Principal of Community Service:
The union member is first and foremost a citizen of the community, who cooperates with other citizens in making the community a good place to live, work, raise a family, and to retire. The union member is concerned about the availability of adequate health and human services for the entire community.
“We are committed to meeting the basic needs of the working families who find themselves in difficult times…Our services are about solidarity not charity,” says Maria Elena Durazo, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the LA County Federation of Labor.
